Crispy Onion Rings

Ingredients: 

  • 1/2 Large Yellow Onion
  • 1 Cup Buttermilk
  • 1 Large Egg
  • 1 1/2 Cup Flour 
  • 1 Cup Cornmeal 
  • Garlic Powder
  • Cayenne Pepper
  • Salt
  • Seasoning Salt
  • Vegetable Oil 

 

1. Slice 1/2 large yellow onion to create rings (about 15-20).

2. In a medium bowl prepare batter by mixing together the buttermilk, egg, salt, and cayenne pepper.

3. In another medium-sized bowl, whisk together flour, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, and salt.

4. In the final bowl, mix together the cornmeal and seasoning salt.

5. In a large pot, heat vegetable oil.

5. With tongs, dip each ring into the batter and then place into flour mix. Repeat this step once.

6. Dip the onion ring in the batter a third time and then place onion ring in corn meal.

7. Once all onion rings are coated, place in vegetable oil (about 6-8 at a time). Allow to cook for about 6 minutes (3 minutes each side) or until a golden brown. 

Serve with an onion ring dipping sauce. (Mayonnaise, Ketchup, & Horseradish + seasonings mentioned above)
